The research provided at the Division of Acoustics and Solid State Physics of Institute of Experimental Physics of Gdańsk University.
Acoustic spectroscopy research i.e. measurements of velocity and absorption of ultrasonic waves against frequency in pure fluids (e.g. organic compounds) and their mixtures (e.g. mixtures of water and non-electrolyte) what allows discover many relaxation processes: Kneser relaxation (cyclic compounds), isomeric rotational relaxation (ketones), structural relaxation, phase transition (liquid crystals) creation of any structures in liquid and gas state (clathrate structure).
Photo-acoustic spectroscopy (PAS), a branch of absorption spectroscopy in which the sample heating caused by selective absorption of optical energy is monitored. PAS one can analyse the light-sample interaction not through detection of photons, but through the energy absorbed by the material and converted into heat via nonradiative processes. Photo-thermal methods are more and more extensively used for investigations of molecular media.
Photo-acoustic spectroscopy gives a direct information on some non-radiative processes in the system under investigation. The analysis of photo-acoustic spectra allows to consider the non-radiative processes and the energy migration and relaxation processes. It allows to estimate the quantum efficiency of the system as well.
Ultrasonic and mechanical investigations of natural water surface pollution.
Room acoustics, noise control, and acoustic isolation problems.
The Division is engaged in international cooperation with many scientific groups from: Martin Luther Universität, Halle/Saale, Technische Hochschule Merseburg, Bremen Universität (Germany); Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan; Catholic University Kortrik-Leuven (Belgia), Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Moscow State University, Moscow (Russia). With German High School we have also agreement in the frame of Socrates-Erasmus Program.
The group engaged in acoustics, together with the group of acousto-opticians, have been organizing cyclic “School on Acousto-Optics and Application”: 1980, 1983, 86, 89, 92, 95, 98, 2001 & 2004) having the international approbation.
